When you hear the name Intel, you immediately think of PC processors, but the company, which was until not so long ago a minor presence in the mobile industry, is pushing the adoption of its chips into an entire host of mobile devices and is doing so quite successfully.

New data provided by Animoca, which surveys US Google Play traffic, shows that during the holiday season (when everybody has some extra time to kill) more people were browsing the Play store using the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 than any other Android tablet.

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is powered by an Intel Atom Chip and you can see, in the chart provided by the researchers, that the tablet managed to grab 10% of the traffic on the US Google Play Store. Interestingly enough, popular tablets such as the Google Nexus 7 managed to grab the 4th position with only 2.15%.

The number 2 and 3 position were snatched by the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, two slates also manufactured by Samsung. Despite being priced more attractively, the two tablets did not manage to overthrow the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

Interestingly enough, under the hood of each of its Tab 3 series Sammy has packed a different processor from different manufacturers, which is a pretty odd thing to do.

Most Android tablets are based on ARM architecture, but the Tab 3 10.1 might be considered unique by some with its Intel Atom Z2650 SoC. Other mobile Android Intel-powered devices include the Acer Liquid C1, ASUS FonePad, Casper VIA A6108, Etisalat E-20, Lenovo K900 or the Motorola RAZR i.

To complement the top five comes Walmart’s Nextbook 8 HD with manages to score 2.13%. It’s also interesting to note, that even with failing sales this holiday season, the Barnes & Noble Nook HD tablet has managed to make a presence in the top, arriving at the number 7 position.

The research included 2 million unique US-based Animoca users on Google Play which were monitored between December 24, 2013 and January 7, 2014.
