It appears that Samsung plans to deploy a major software update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet next week. The company recently announced that it will hold an event on August 3 where it will unveil the latest software build that will be installed on the tablet.

Held in New York, Samsung's event will take place at the Samsung Experience Store from the Columbus Circle between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Furthermore, a press conference for the media will be held between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. before the event will be opened to the public.

Members of the media will be provided with software demonstrations and onsite Galaxy Tab 10.1 software updates.

To make things even more interesting, Samsung invites all Galaxy Tab 10.1 owners living in the area to bring their units to have them updated with the latest firmware for free.

However, those attending to the event who want their Galaxy Tab 10.1 updated should back up all the sensitive data, as the tablet will be wiped clean during the update process.

Obviously, those living outside of the New York metropolitan area will receive the update OTA (over the air), though it is unclear whether Samsung intends to push the update on the same date or soon after the event.

The major software update includes several important new features and improvements:

- Fully customizable Samsung TouchWiz UX with Live Panel and Mini Apps services; - Re-designed Samsung Media Hub user interface; - Amazon Music Cloud Player, Amazon Kindle and Words with Friends applications; - Enterprise Mobile solutions.

One of the most interesting changes added by the upcoming major software update is the introduction of the TouchWiz UI, as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is not yet delivered with Samsung's proprietary user interface.

The rest of the new features and enhancements are also nice additions to the Honeycomb tablet's functionality.
