Android fans and tinkerers living in North Europe will be happy to find that Samsung has finally announced the availability and prices for its highly-anticipated Honeycomb tablets Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9.
The Korean manufacturer stated that Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be released in Sweden and Finland in August, while the
Galaxy Tab 8.9 will hit shelves in both countries some time in September.
Despite the fact that Samsung only vaguely scheduled the tablets, it is almost certain that both 3G and Wi-Fi versions will be launched simultaneously.
In addition, Samsung revealed the suggested retail prices for all versions of the tablets in both countries, as follows:
Sweden:
- Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab 10.1 – 4400 SEK (about 480 Euros)
- 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1 – 5300 SEK (about 580 Euros)
- Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab 8.9 – 4300 SEK (about 470 Euros)
- 3G Galaxy Tab 8.9 – 5000 SEK (about 545 Euros)
Finland:
- Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab 10.1 - 549 Euros
- 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1 - 699 Euros
- Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab 8.9 - 499 Euros
- 3G Galaxy Tab 8.9 - 649 Euros
However, Sweden customers can purchase any of the two tablets as early as June 29, as network operator Telia announced that it would have exclusivity over the Android devices.
According to Samsung, both
Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 tablets will be delivered with Android 3.1 Honeycomb on board and will be powered by a similar dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor clocked at 1GHz.
Both feature a 3-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus and LED flash, as well as secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats.
Customers will be able to choose from three versions according to the amount of storage space: 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.
Other highlights common to both tablets include Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, Adobe Flash 10.2 support, built-in GPS, 1GB RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
