With Galaxy S6, we can't help but notice the slight change in direction from Samsung, when it comes to smartphone design. The new two flagship smartphones announced today at Mobile World Congress 2015 are more closer to a premium smartphone than any other handset launched by Samsung in the last couple of years.

Now, there are already millions of people who bought the previous flagship launched by Samsung, the Galaxy S5, and will probably want to upgrade to the new model. But is it really worth upgrading to Samsung Galaxy S6?

We'll be taking a look at what both smartphones have to offer in terms of look and specs to help you decide whether or not Samsung's flagship is worth another investment.

Design

Let's start with the most obvious change, design. Samsung Galaxy S6 is covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on both front and back sides. This is a very welcomed change from the plastic that Samsung usually included in their flagship handsets.

But wouldn't that make the Galaxy S6 slightly thicker than the Galaxy S5? Actually not, on the contrary. Samsung Galaxy S6 is only 6.8mm thin, whereas the S5 is thicker at 8.1mm. The Galaxy S5 is also heavier at 145g, while the S6 is lighter at 138g.

The next major improvement over the previous model would be the display. Even though both smartphones feature a similar-sized 5.1-inch touchscreen, the S6 has a Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display with 577ppi (pixel per inch), while the S5 sports a full HD (1080p) display with 432ppi (pixel per inch).

Corning Gorilla Glass 4 in the Galaxy S6 is said to be more resistant than the Gorilla Glass 3 in the previous flagship smartphone. On the other hand, the Galaxy S5 is dust and water resistant, while the Galaxy S6 isn't.

Hardware

Performance-wise, it's clear that Galaxy S6 is much better than the Galaxy S5 thanks to its Exynos 7420 chipset that packs an octa-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz. The former also comes equipped with 3GB DDRAM4 and 32GB of internal memory.

Samsung Galaxy S5, on the other hand, is powered by quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, which is complemented by 2GB DDRAM3 and 16GB or 32GB of internal memory.

Keep in mind that Galaxy S6 lacks microSD card slot, which is why the smartphone will come in 3 variants: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The Galaxy S5 allows users to expand storage up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Now the main camera on the back has the same number of megapixels, 16. But the Galaxy S6 sensor is said to have been improved, along with the lens and processing software. In the front, the Galaxy S5 has a low 2-megapixel camera, while the S6 packs a much better 5-megapixel camera perfect for selfies.

Connectivity

Another difference between the two smartphones is the microUSB port. The Galaxy S6 comes with microUSB 2.0 (MHL 3 TV-out), while the S5 has microUSB 3.0 (MHL 2.1 TV-out).

Samsung Galaxy S6 supports LTE Cat.6 (300/50Mbps), while the Galaxy S5 features only LTE Cat.4 (150/50Mbps). Also, the former comes with Bluetooth 4.1, whereas the latter packs Bluetooth 4.0.

Battery and software

Last but not least, Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a non-removable 2,550 mAh non-removable battery, which features fast charging. On the other hand, the Galaxy S5 is powered by a removable 2,800 mAh battery. Both smartphones feature wireless charging.

When it comes to software, most Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones have already received Android 5.0 Lollipop, but they don't have the latest version of TouchWiz yet. The Galaxy S6 ships with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and the newest TouchWiz UI.
