Samsung announced earlier this month that Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge would go on sale in 20 countries on April 10. The smartphones will then be introduced in other countries in waves, so hopefully, by the end of the next month they will go on sale in all regions planned.

Since the flagship smartphones were announced on March 1, few carriers have started taking pre-orders for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, but even so Samsung has reported stunning numbers.

According to The Korea Times, Samsung has received no less than 20 million pre-orders from carriers for both Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

A Samsung official who wished to remain anonymous said that “Samsung received some 20 million pre-orders for the S6 and S6 Edge: 15 million of S6 and five million of the S6 Edge from mobile carriers, worldwide. This is the record.”

The statement was made at some point during Mobile World Congress 2015, so the number may have already increased and since many carriers won't open pre-orders until early April, pre-orders for Samsung's flagship smartphones may double or triple by that time.

Will Samsung's Galaxy S6 be able to compete with iPhone 6?

Samsung's official has also confirmed that the South Korean company is impressed with all aspects of the two Galaxy S6 smartphones and that the high numbers of pre-orders are a direct result of the changes his company made to design and hardware.

While Samsung has managed to differentiate its Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone from Apple's iPhone 6 in terms of hardware, it's the price point for the cheapest version that might increase its sales.

The 32GB Samsung Galaxy S6 is already available for pre-order in several European countries for €700 ($757) outright, while the cheapest Galaxy S6 Edge variant is selling for €150 ($162) more. Both smartphones are also available in 64GB and 128GB versions.
