Samsung is expected to launch a rugged version of Galaxy S6 in the coming weeks. News about the Galaxy S6 Active emerged for the first time several weeks ago, but no details on release were available at that time.

Today, the first press renders of the smartphone were leaked by Evan Blass (@evleaks), but we still don't know when exactly the Galaxy S6 Active will go on sale.

However, we do know for sure that the handset will be initially released in the United States via AT&T. In fact, Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will be exclusive to AT&T, at least for a certain period of time.

According to the date showing up on the phone's homescreen, there's a high chance that the Galaxy S6 Active will be officially introduced at AT&T on June 5.

It might be released at AT&T on June 5

This means that we're about three weeks ahead of its release in the United States, though we recommend our reader to take the information with a grain of salt.

As we're getting closer to launch, we expect more details on pricing and availability to emerge online, so stay tuned for more on this one.

Moving on to specs, we expect Samsung Galaxy S6 Active to come with similar hardware inside, as the standard version of the smartphone.

The rugged handset will be MIL-STD-810G certified, so expect to be resistant to dust, rain, humidity, salt, vibration, solar radiation and thermal shock.

Other than that, Galaxy S6 Active should be equipped with an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

Just like the standard model, it's expected to lack microSD card slot and the battery will certainly be non-removable. Obviously, Samsung might make some changes, but for the time being it's unclear whether or not they will include the missing microSD slot.

Other highlights include 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display, 3500 mAh battery, 16-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel camera in the front.
