Samsung has been long rumored to plan the release of a smaller version of its Galaxy S5 flagship handset, the same as it did with the previous smartphones in the Galaxy S series, and allegedly leaked photos appear to be offering a look at this upcoming device today.

Supposedly called Galaxy S5 mini, the smartphone is expected to arrive on the market with downgraded hardware specifications when compared to the original, but will feature the same outer design as its bigger brother, it seems.

The aforementioned leaked photos, available courtesy of SamMobile, show the same rounded corners as on Galaxy S5, as well as the perforated pattern on the back cover that the flagship mobile phone packed right from the start.

Moreover, it seems that Samsung also decided to include most of the features in the original Galaxy S5 on this phone as well, such as a fingerprint scanner and a heart-rate sensor.

The back cover also sports a rubber gasket on the inside, which suggests that the new device is water-resistant. However, it remains to be seen whether it will be IP67 certified as well.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 mini is expected to arrive on the market with a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, capable of delivering a 720p (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution.

Moreover, it should be powered by the yet-unannounced Exynos 3 Quad (Exynos 3470) processor, which is said to have been clocked at 1.4GHz per core.

The CPU will be accompanied by Mali-400 MP4 GPU (450MHz) and 1.5GB of RAM, which should be enough to offer pretty decent performance levels to its users.

Galaxy S5 mini is also said to come to the market with 16GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot, so as to allow users to easily add some more storage space to it.

On the back, the phone will sport an 8-megapixel camera that will be able to record videos in full HD 1080p resolution. A 2.1MP camera will be included on the front of the handset, so as to allow users to make video calls while on the go.

The forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 mini is expected to run under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system right out-of-the-box, and should also feature Samsung’s own TouchWiz user interface.

Apparently, many of the features that Galaxy S5 was launched with will make it inside the smaller handset as well, including the Ultra Power Saving Mode, Private Mode, Kids Mode, and others.
