On April 11, Samsung Galaxy S5, the latest flagship Android-based handset from South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung, has started selling in 125 countries around the world, and initial reports claim that it has seen very strong demand in all markets.

Considering the fact that Samsung is already the most popular Android smartphones manufacturer out there, this does not come too much as a surprise.

The fact that Galaxy S5 has seen stronger demand than its predecessor – the Samsung Galaxy S4 – did is not surprising either, though the popularity the new device enjoyed in some markets when compared to last year’s flagship might be.

A recent report coming from ZDNet Korea notes that sales of the new device were up to 30 percent higher compared to Galaxy S4 in some markets. Moreover, it seems that demand for the phone was twice as high as that for Galaxy S4 in some countries in Europe.

People even queued up in front of stores on April 11 to grab the new handset, though this did not happen everywhere. Apparently, sales of Galaxy S5 could have been higher than they already were, though stock was depleted fast at some stores.

With initial demand so high, it might not be too long before Samsung reports record launch sales for this phone, just as it did with other Galaxy S models before.

As SamMobile notes, the success that this new device has seen from day one also proves that the market of high-end smartphones is still far from being saturated.

Galaxy S5 is one of the few flagship phones to have been released this year with a dust- and water-resistant design, and this undoubtedly contributed to its success.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the phone was released with a 5.1-inch touchscreen display, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM.

Moreover, it comes with 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 128GB of additional storage space, and a 2800mAh battery inside. It also features the usual connectivity capabilities and sensors.

On the back, the mobile phone features a 16-megapixel camera with support for 4K video recording. Samsung has released it with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform loaded on top.

Soon, the company will make the phone available in 25 additional markets around the world, and it should slowly push it to other countries as well afterwards.

While no specific sales figures have been provided as of now, it might not be too long before the South Korean vendor unveils such info, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.
