Samsung Galaxy S5, the latest flagship Android-based handset from the South Korean mobile phone maker, will reportedly arrive on shelves with a hidden feature packed inside, a baby monitor.

The smartphone was already unveiled with capabilities such as a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate sensor, but it appears that Samsung also packed it with capabilities that haven’t been officially unveiled to the world.

Said baby monitor is one of them, aimed at alerting parents when a child starts crying. However, Samsung notes that the feature was not intended to replace human care giving, and that it was not meant to be a medical device.

Moreover, the company explains that the feature would work best when the smartphone is placed within a meter from the child and when there’s no background noise to interfere.

When the phone detects a cry, a vibrating alert is delivered on a paired Galaxy Gear, thus letting the parents know that the baby needs their attention.

As GSMArena notes, the feature should prove great in aiding parents take better care of their children. However, Samsung notes, parents should always stay close to their infants, as it is not a good idea to leave them unattended, even when monitored.
