The Samsung Galaxy S6 has already stolen the hearts of many

Samsung officially rolled out the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge during a major event in Barcelona not so long ago.

A few weeks after, a British mobile device trade-in monitoring website posted a bunch of interesting trade-in data covering time periods before, during and after the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge’s launch party.

Galaxy S5 owners are craving the new Samsung phone

The numbers showed quite an interesting story. It appears owners of the one-year-old Galaxy S5 (the one that was considered a big flop for Samsung’s portfolio) are very interested in upgrading to the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge.

CompareMyMobile reported a 60.2% spike in valuations (folks looking up the price of their old device) and a massive 187.5% increase in trade-ins (people who actually traded the phones).

Owners of the Galaxy S4 mini and Galaxy S3 LTE were also found to show quite an interest in Sammy’s new phones. The former saw a 108.34% trade-in spike, while the latter registered a more modest 80.3% increase.

Spikes have been calculated by comparing the number of trade-ins and valuations from February 28 to March 1 and 2 (the Galaxy S6 launched on March 1).

CompareMyMobile also offered us a glimpse into what happened last year. It’s a pretty well-known fact that the Galaxy S5 didn’t incite a lot of buyers and these figures drive the point home.

Not many people wanted to upgrade to the Galaxy S5 last year

Only 21.2% of the people trading their smartphones through the website wanted to upgrade to the Galaxy S5. 37.48% of them traded in an older Apple device, while only 18.75% used a Samsung device to achieve the same goal.

It’s pretty clear that Samsung has done right by its fans this year. Even so, the phone comes with a bunch of caveats. There’s no microSD card slot, nor is the phone waterproof like its predecessor. More than that, the battery on the flagship is not of the removable kind.

Even so, a lot of people seem to be prepared to learn to live with these "deficiencies" and pick up a Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge when they come railing on the market.
