Earlier this week, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics officially announced the upcoming availability of a smaller version of its Galaxy S5 smartphone, and it seems that UK retailer Phones4U is planning on bringing it to its lineup soon.

The company has already added the phone to its website, with a coming soon tag next to it, and allows users interested in it to register for info on availability and pricing.

Such details haven’t been provided as of now, but rumor has it that the handset will hit shelves around the world sometime in mid-July, and chances are that the retailer will launch it around the same time too.

Undoubtedly, other retailers in the UK, along with wireless carriers in the country, will start announcing plans to add the handset to their offerings in the not too distant future, but for now Phones4U is the only one to have made the move.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini was made official on July 1 as the more compact flavor of Samsung’s latest flagship handsets, but it will also arrive on shelves with downgraded hardware specs, it seems.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the new device was made official with a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen capable of delivering an HD (720p) resolution.

Moreover, the mobile phone comes to the market with a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 3470 processor or a Snapdragon 400 CPU packed inside, as well as with 1.5GB of RAM, which should provide users with pretty decent performance capabilities.

The handset was announced with 16GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot that can accommodate memory cards of up to 64GB in size.

On the back, the smartphone features an 8-megapixel camera that boasts auto-focus, and LED flash, and which is capable of providing full HD video recording to its users. For those interested in making video calls while on the go, the 2.1MP front camera on this device should prove a great option.

The phone was announced in two different flavors, one with 4G LTE connectivity inside (the Snapdragon 400-based one), and the other only with 3G capabilities.

The usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS receiver features will also be included inside the smartphone, along with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, which also sports Samsung’s TouchWiz UI loaded on top.

The new device comes with looks similar with those of Galaxy S5 (save for the smaller body), while also featuring dust- and water-resistant certification, just as the original.
