The phone is said to start shipping to users as soon as this week

Samsung’s Galaxy S5, the flagship smartphone that the company made official on February 24 during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is now listed as available for purchase in India with a price tag of Rs. 45,500 ($730/€530) attached to it.

The smartphone can be seen on the website of online retailer Saholic at the moment, which claims that it will begin shipping the phone by March 7 and that delivery is free.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Samsung has announced that Galaxy S5 will become available for purchase worldwide starting with April 11, which is more than a month from now.

Thus, we find it hard to believe that Saholic will actually be able to keep its promise and ship the phone this week, especially since clicking on the buy button will show the phone as out of stock. However, the retailer promises to pay Rs. 50 ($0.8) per day to users for each day that their ordered units are delayed.

As SamMobile notes, this is a bold move from the company, especially since other retailers in the country haven’t even listed the phone on their websites. One way or the other, we’ll see how that goes when March 7 arrives.

One thing that should be mentioned here, however, is the fact that the smartphone appears to be cheaper in India when compared to other markets out there. In the UK and Spain, for example, Galaxy S5 was listed at retailers for as much as $1,000 (€730).

For those out of the loop, we should note that Samsung has unveiled the new Galaxy S5 with a 5.1-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, while being powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor.

Moreover, the smartphone arrives on shelves with 2GB of RAM inside, as well as with 16GB/32GB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

On the back, the new flagship handset packs a 16-megapixel camera capable of recording videos in 4K resolution, paired with a front camera for making video calls. It also includes the usual set of connectivity capabilities and sensors, as well as a 2800mAh battery.

Samsung launched the new phone with a series of design improvements as well, including a new back plate texture to offer better grip, a fingerprint sensor in the home button, and a dust- and water-proof body, for increased resistance.

Samsung Galaxy S5 runs under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and features a new version of the TouchWiz UI loaded on top. It also comes with a great deal of updated applications and other software enhancements.
