Samsung’s next Android-based flagship smartphone will become official sometime in March or April this year, a company’s official has already confirmed, Bloomberg reports.

The company has been long rumored to plan the launch of a new flagship handset in the popular Galaxy S lineup, though no specific details on it have been provided as of now.

However, Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of the company’s mobile business, has unveiled during a recent interview that the next phone in the series will indeed be launched in the March – April timeframe.

Previous Galaxy S models were released at around the same time during the past several years and the South Korean vendor appears set to continue the tradition.

Apparently, Samsung is also set to pair the mobile phone with a new Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch with enhanced capabilities packed inside.

Galaxy S5 is also said to arrive on the market with iris recognition technology included, something that has been rumored about it a few times before.

Moreover, the upcoming handset should sport a new design when compared to the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 before it, which resembled a lot, as Lee Young Hee acknowledges.

The hardware specs of Galaxy S5 haven’t been unveiled yet, but previous reports suggested that we should be looking at a top-of-the-line device.

The smartphone might feature a Quad HD touchscreen display when launched, along with one of the latest mobile processors out there (a quad-core and octa-core pair of models is also possible).

Moreover, Samsung is expected to pack the device with a better camera and more RAM when compared to Galaxy S4, as well as with a variety of software improvements.

An unveiling in March – April means that Galaxy S5 won’t be present at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, although Samsung is expected to bring to the trade fair other handsets, including its first Tizen OS-based phones.
