The Galaxy S5 Active saga is finally over, as major carrier AT&T has just announced that the smartphone is now available for purchase through its online and brick and mortar stores.

Moreover, the rugged smartphone is exclusive to AT&T, so Android fans in the United States will be able to get it through this carrier.

It’s unclear whether or not this is a limited-time exclusivity or AT&T will be the sole retailer of the Galaxy S5 Active until it gets discontinued.

Anyway, lots of details and photos with Samsung Galaxy S5 Active have leaked online over the last couple of weeks, so there’s nothing really surprising about the smartphone.

The only surprising thing is the sudden announcement of the smartphone, as AT&T did not launch the Galaxy S5 Active during a dedicated event.

All in all, potential customers interested in acquiring this device may want to know a few things about its specs before making their investment.

Speaking of which, Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is available for purchase via AT&T starting today for only $200 (€145) on two-year agreements. It can also be had for zero down and $27.50 (€20.21) per month with AT&T Next 18, or $35.75 (€26.28) per month with AT&T Next 12.

Just like the standard Galaxy S5, the rugged Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is water resistant. Aside from that, the smartphone is shock resistant and features dust-proof casing.

However, unlike the Galaxy S5, the Active version comes with a convenience key on the side that launches all apps related to outdoor activity.

Users will be able to track their heartbeat with the built-in heart rate monitor or even keep count of their steps throughout the day, earn medals, and request on-demand nutrition tips with S-Health.

Hardware-wise, Samsung Galaxy S5 Active comes equipped with a powerful 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone also sports a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

It also packs the same impressive 16-megapxiel photo snapper on the back, which features LED flash, autofocus and 4K video recording. The smartphone also comes with a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and selfies.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box and comes with 4G LTE support for AT&T’s network.

“Samsung Galaxy S 5 Active is built to handle the wear and tear of an active lifestyle, while still maintaining the level of performance customers expect from a premium smartphone. Now you can enjoy the outdoors with a durable, premium smartphone on the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president – devices, AT&T.
