Here comes the latest burning smartphone story

Back in December 2014 we told you the story of an Ontario student who was sleeping one night while her phone was charging on the desk next to her bed.

Nothing out of the ordinary here, until suddenly the phone exploded and in the process, flew across the room to land on her pillow which eventually caught on fire.

The phone around which this entire story revolves is the low-end Galaxy Ace II x released back in 2012, so it’s an older device.

But the next story we’re going to be telling you about centers on a former flagship, which also comes from Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy S4 catches on fire

It’s the Galaxy S4, which got unveiled back in 2013 in New York and comes with a worthy set of specs. What happened this time?

Well, Reddit user AlmostARockstar claims his Galaxy S4 almost caught on fire, while it was charging overnight.

He claims that the charger was the original one which shipped out from Samsung alongside the phone. The battery was also an official one, purchased from a Vodafone shop in order to replace a so-called “ballooned original.”

The user did not install any additional firmware or mods. Normally, when things like this happen, tech companies usually end up blaming the user for using a so-called “fake” battery.

That’s a little hypocritical given that replacement power sources usually come from the same factories as the original ones.

And in this case, we’re seemingly dealing with a validated Samsung replacement. Anyway, the affected user hasn’t gotten around to contacting Samsung, so we’re yet to find out what the company’s response to all this will be.

If we’re to look at how Sammy handled the case while the Galaxy Ace II x was concerned, it will probably award the affected party with a replacement, but it won’t provide him/her with additional monetary compensation.
