Sprint is one of the last US-based carriers to release Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Samsung Galaxy S4. Verizon and AT&T were among the first to offer the upgrade, but that didn't happen so long ago.

Unfortunately, Sprint does not offer an official changelog for the update, but it does confirm in Galaxy S4's support page that beginning May 8, Android 5.0 Lollipop should be available for download to all those who own the smartphone.

In the same piece of news, the Spark-enabled version of Samsung Galaxy S4 is getting the update as well, just that the firmware version is different than the one without Spark.

Keep in mind that the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all Samsung Galaxy S4 devices.

Also, in order to download and install the update, you should make sure your phone's battery is at least 50% charged. It's also recommended to back up your media files, even though the update should erase anything from the smartphone.

The Spark-enabled Galaxy S4 gets an additional new feature

If you haven't received the update until now, you can manually check for Android 5.0 Lollipop for Samsung Galaxy S4 by going to Settings / More / System Update / Update Samsung software / Check now.

Moving on to what changes Android 5.0 Lollipop brings into the mix, the most important is Material Design. Samsung Galaxy S4 owners will notice the visual enhancements at first glance, but the update features lots of under-the-hood improvements as well.

Furthermore, the update brings a new TouchWiz UI, along with Priority Mode notifications, new multitasking screen with cards, lockscreen improvements and other overall performance enhancements.

It's also worth mentioning that the Spark model comes with a new Factory Reset Protection feature, which is not available for the non-Spark version of Galaxy S4.
