US-based carrier AT&T has just confirmed that customers who purchased the Samsung Galaxy S4 through its official retail channels will now be able to download a new software update that will upgrade their smartphones to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop.

AT&T Galaxy S4 was stuck on Android 4.4 KitKat, but beginning this week owners of the smartphone will be able to take advantage of the new features and improvements included in Lollipop.

Speaking of which, the carrier has also confirmed some of the changes included in this update. Unlike other Galaxy S4 units, AT&T version received Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, which packs a few more improvements in comparison with the original iteration.

Keep in mind that the bump from KitKat to Lollipop is huge and will bring lots of visual changes, but also some under-the-hood enhancements that should be noticeable performance-wise.

Also, AT&T states that “songs, photos, apps, and even recent searches from one Android device can be immediately enjoyed across all of your Android devices.”

The new Material Design and user interface will look and feel smoother with more fluid motions. The new Priority mode will provide you with the option to only allow certain notifications to get through.

Some new battery saving features have been implemented as well, such as the option to see remaining time left to charge or deplete indicators.

The Smart Lock feature allows users to secure their Galaxy S4 smartphones by pairing it with a trusted device like a wearable or car.

Also, the most frequently used settings will now be available with just two swipes down from the top screen. AT&T also confirmed that the update should remove the Code Scanner, Browser Bar and Softcard apps.

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for Samsung Galaxy S4 has around 950MB in size and is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
