Samsung and Google confirmed the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition will eventually receive an Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade in early November, but did not mention any timeframe for the release.

HTC also stated its One Google Play Edition would receive the highly anticipated update in only 15 days and delivered it yesterday.

It's been more than three weeks since Samsung's promise and the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition is finally receiving the promised Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade.

According to a post on Google+, starting today Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition owners should receive the update OTA (over the air).

However, given the fact the update is pushed OTA (over the air), it might take a while until all Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition devices receive it.

Aside from the latest Nexus smartphones and tablet, Motorola Moto X was the only one that got Android 4.4 KitKat update and now both HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Editions join the range of devices running the latest version of the platform.

Unfortunately, Samsung has yet to come forward with an official statement regarding its Android 4.4 KitKat update schedule.

The Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition was the only Samsung smartphone confirmed for the upgrade, but there have been reports lately pointing to a possible update for Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 for January 2014.

With the latest Android 4.4 KitKat, Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition will be able to enjoy new features offered, including Chromecast and Bluetooth MAP support. Easy home screen switching and HDR+ photography are some of the new improvements that come within Android 4.4 KitKat.

Lots of apps and services have been redesigned and enhanced, such as Email and Downloads app, as well as device management. For more details make sure you check Android 4.4 KitKat feature list.
