The new platform release will bring along a new UI, various other improvements

Today, wireless carrier AT&T has officially started to deliver the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the owners of Samsung Galaxy S4 Active devices on its network.

In addition to the features and enhancements that the new OS version was unveiled with, the update also packs a series of other improvements, coming from Samsung itself.

Some of the changes that users will see following the update include enhancements to the device’s interface, a better phone dialer app, improved focus and exposure, and more.

According to the release notes published on AT&T’s blog, the new Android 4.4 KitKat comes with re-styled status and navigation bars, as well as with a full-screen-immersive mode, support for color emoji, and better closed captioning support. The security and power use of the device were also improved.

Moreover, the update brings along full screen album art and media controls on the lock screen, as well as fast access to the camera from the lock screen.

There is also an integrated location menu to take advantage of, so that users could easily activate GPS and share location details, as well as support for wireless printing, in enhanced settings. The update also includes new sounds for specific Samsung applications.

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active devices can check on the availability of the update by going to Settings > More > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates.
