South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung will not make the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system available for its Galaxy S users. Instead, it will push out another update, called 'Value Pack', which has just leaked online.

Samsung claims that the mobile phone does not feature the hardware capabilities that would allow it to run a full flavor of the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Soon after the announcement, Samsung was said to plan the release of a Value Pack for its Galaxy S users, and that software has just leaked online.

The software will not bring the Android 4.0 platform on devices, but it will offer some of the features and capabilities that have been included in this OS version.

For example, the leaked software shows that the Face Unlock capability in Ice Cream Sandwich will be available for Galaxy S users, as well as the possibility to take photos while recording a video.

However, the mobile phone will still run under the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, just as it did before.

A series of other improvements will also be included into the mix, the guys over at XDA-Developers found. Among them, we can count a camera fix for recording videos, or the Photo Editor that can be found in Galaxy S2.

New Lockscreen sounds were also found in the leaked ROM, along with faster auto-rotation, better I/O performance, and smoother browsing, as well as some other enhancements more.

One thing that remains to be seen is whether Samsung will indeed push the update to users and when that will happen.

The leaked build is dated December 29, 2011, just before Samsung reiterated that it plans no update for its Galaxy S users.

Those who would like to learn some more info on the leaked ROM should head over to this thread on the XDA-Developers forum.

Those who would like to download and install the ROM should keep in mind that this is not an official release, nor a final one. They will be the only ones responsible if anything goes wrong during the installation.
