Samsung Mobile, a leading mobile phone provider in the United States, announced today that it managed to sell over one million Samsung Galaxy S devices on the market since making the handset available for purchase on July 15.

Based on Google's Android 2.1 operating system the smartphone is available for purchase via wireless carriers T-Mobile and AT&T, which have it as the Vibrant and Captivate.

Moreover, Galaxy S devices should soon become available for purchase via other carriers too, including Sprint on August 31, and Verizon Wireless, U.S. Cellular and Cellular South this fall.

The Galaxy S series of handsets comes to the market with high-end features, including a stunning 4-inch Super AMOLED display screen and a 1GHz Hummingbird Application Processor.

Moreover, the handsets pack a wide range of multimedia and social networking features, and are expected to be upgraded to Android 2.2 in the near future.

“Bringing Galaxy S devices to multiple carriers has given Samsung Mobile the opportunity to reach millions of consumers,” said Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile.

“I am proud of the instant success of the Galaxy S line up and I am very pleased to announce that because of the support of our carrier partners and loyal customers, we have shipped one million Galaxy S devices in the U.S. market,” he continued.

According to the mobile phone maker, the launch of Galaxy S on the US market was accompanied by a “multi-tiered print, online, cinema and television advertising campaign,” which run across various major networks.

“From September 30 to October 3, the Samsung Galaxy S lineup will be showcased at the World Cyber Games Grand Final in Los Angeles,” the company announced.

For what it's worth, the US does not represent the only market where the Galaxy S devices proved successful.

People in Samsung's homeland, South Korea, were highly attracted by this device. Samsung announced a few weeks ago the reaching of 800k sold units in the country, and should announce the one million milestone in a matter of days.
