The last US carrier to get one of the Galaxy S series devices is Cellular South, which has just announced the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S Showcase. The smartphone is available online and in stores for $199.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate and with a new two-year contract.

The Galaxy S Showcase features a brilliant WVGA 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480x800 pixels resolution.

The device is powered by a standard 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor and runs on Android 2.1 (Eclair) platform out-of-the-box. Customers may get the chance to upgrade their software later this year to Android 2.2 Froyo, but the carrier hasn't disclosed any plans for the upgrade yet.

The Galaxy S series of smartphones offers users superior features, including a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird Application Processor, Samsung’s Super AMOLED touch screen technology, along with entertainment, messaging and social networking applications,” said Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile.

Other key features of the smartphone include: virtual QWERTY keyboard with Swype technology, 5.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording capabilities (720p HD), MP3 player and 3.5 mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support, 2GB internal memory (1.5GB user free), microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 16GB card included) and GPS with turn-by-turn navigation and voice guidance featuring Google Maps Navigation Beta. “We’re looking forward to bringing the benefits of one of the world’s most advanced Android-powered smartphones to our customers,” said Kevin Hankins, chief operating officer for Cellular South.

“With its superior touchscreen technology, super fast processor and integrated social networking, the Samsung Showcase offers one of the best Android experiences available today.”

Samsung Galaxy S Showcase list of bundled applications includes ThinkFree Office Mobile, Google Voice Search, Nuance voice commands with Bluetooth, Facebook, Gmail, YouTube and Amazon MP3.
