South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced the introduction of a new high-end Android-based handset back in March, but hasn't unveiled specific details on its launch on the market. Following the receiving of FCC approval only a few weeks ago, the device has recently obtained the necessary Global Certification Forum (GCF) approval, something that suggests it might not be too long before Samsung pushes it to shelves.

The GCF listing provided a series of details on the phone's specifications list, though most of them were previously brought to light by Samsung themselves. That 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display is there, as well as the 1GHz processor, and great connectivity options, including tri band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/1900/2100 MHz, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, and USB 2.0.

According to GCF, the new Android 2.1-based mobile phone should arrive with aGPS, a digital compass, accelerometer and proximity sensor too, as well as with support for 3GPP compliant UMTS video telephony, a feature Samsung hasn't talked about until now. Unfortunately, no exact details on when the phone becomes available have emerged so far, but the unwired suggests it might actually arrive before the end of the third quarter. The Galaxy S is expected to arrive in Europe, North America, Latin America, Australia and Asia.

In related news, we learn that another high-end device from Samsung is making the rounds on its way to South Korea, the SHW-M110S. Reportedly, the specifications list of this handset is similar with the one featured by the Samsung Galaxy S, including the same 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, TouchWiz 3.0, and Google’s Android mobile operating system, suggesting that this might be the same handset in the end. The new phone is set to be launched in the company's home country in the near future, but Samsung hasn't confirmed the move yet, nor the similarities with Galaxy S. Stay tuned for additional info on this.
