Officially launched in Russia in mid-April, the Galaxy S Plus is about to make its debut in the Netherlands.

Even though the Korean handset manufacturer is busy with the global launch of its Galaxy S II Android flagship smartphone, it took the time to strengthen its presence in the Netherlands with another Galaxy family high-end device.

Although no exact release date or price tag have been disclosed yet, it appears that the Galaxy S Plus will be available in both white and black color options.

While the phone cannot compete with the Galaxy S II when it comes to hardware, it may cost about the same as its better gifted brother.

In this regard, it is worth mentioning that the Russian version of Galaxy S Plus is now selling for €539 (about $780), which is considerably more expensive than the Galaxy S II, which was price tagged at $700.

Unlike other Galaxy S devices, the Galaxy S Plus comes with a metal backplate and is powered by a single core 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which was designed for low power consumption.

The phone is marketed in Russia as Galaxy S 2011 Edition, but there's no telling if it will be introduced in the Netherlands under the same name.

The Galaxy S Plus runs the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and features a 4.0-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

A standard set of connectivity options have also been included: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, USB and built-in GPS.

It packs 8 GB of internal memory, 512 MB RAM, 2GB ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Samsung Galaxy S Plus sports a standard 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, video recording capabilities (720p) and secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

UPDATE: The Galaxy S Plus has been officially introduced in the Netherlands and is available for purchase for €449 (about $660).

It has also been confirmed that the phone will be delivered with the MMM widget pre-installed.
