It looks like MetroPCS is prepping for the launch of a new 4G LTE-enabled device, the Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G smartphone.

The folks over at Pocketnow have just published an official press shot of the smartphone, so if nothing goes wrong, we can expect MetroPCS to announce this device soon.

For the time being, there are no details on the phone’s pricing options or availability date, but more info will probably emerge in the following weeks.

At first glance, the Galaxy S Lightray 4G follows the same name pattern as the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G. However, the latter has better specs, but the former may go for cheaper.

For those unfamiliar with Sprint’s lineup of 4G devices, the Galaxy S Lightray 4G is none other than the Samsung Conquer 4G. This means that the smartphone will be delivered with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, but it might get an Ice Cream Sandwich update late this year.

Samsung has yet to confirm the Conquer 4G for an Android 4.0 upgrade, but it will be interesting to see if MetroPCS reveals any additional info in its official announcement.

Obviously, the selling point of the Galaxy S Lightray S 4G is the LTE support. Other than that the smartphone does not offer anything spectacular in terms of specs.

Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G is equipped with a 1 GHz single-core processor and packs 1GB of ROM, 512 MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). Sprint’s variant also comes with a free 2GB memory card in the sales package, but MetroPCS has yet to confirm it as well.

The smartphone also sports a decent 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with 320 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as dual cameras (3-megapixel rear photo snapper and 1.3-megapixel front facing camera).
