Not Jelly Bean, but still packing a great deal of improvements

Owners of a Galaxy S III smartphone on the network of mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless should soon get the chance to taste a new software on their handsets, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

In fact, Verizon has already published on its website info on what the software update would include, which usually happens just before the new firmware is pushed out.

“Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update, SW Version IMM76D.I535VRALG7, for your Samsung Galaxy S III,” the wireless carrier notes.

“Verizon Wireless and Samsung encourage you to download this update,” the carrier continues.

Unfortunately, the new software update does not bring along a new platform release for the Galaxy S III, as many might have expected.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean might not arrive on Verizon’s handset until next month, when it should reach other device models as well, just as Samsung confirmed earlier this week.

However, the update does pack a nice range of enhancements that Galaxy S III users at Big Red are certain to enjoy.

The list of improvements includes: - Improved stability and connectivity with Back Up Assistant; - Added support for viewing the Guided Tour video’s over the Cellular Network; - Enhanced Customer Support with Verizon Remote Diagnostics; - New customer care solution to improve customer service experience. When a customer calls into Verizon Wireless customer care, this solution, with the customer’s permission, allows support personnel to remotely view the user’s device for device training, application demonstrations and troubleshooting; - Improved Data Connectivity when using SBeam; - NFC (TecTile) tagging issue resolved to ensure pre-programmed text messages are accurate; - “No SIM” pop up issue has been resolved.

As soon as the update is ready for deployment, Verizon will send out notifications to Galaxy S III users on its network, to inform them on the matter. However, there’s no telling on when that should actually happen.

You can learn more on the new firmware and on what actions you need to take to install it on Verizon’s support website.
