Today, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung brings to the market its latest Android-based flagship device, the Galaxy S III.

The handset was made official at the beginning of this month with a quad-core application processor inside, and it is set to land in users' hands today.

Following its initial availability in countries such as the United Kingdom, France, UAE, Saudi Arabia and more, the phone is expected to reach a much larger number of markets in the coming months.

According to Samsung, Galaxy S III will eventually become available in 145 countries on 296 operators by July, benefiting from the widest availability of the Galaxy S series to date.

Also today, the handset vendor is holding a special event for users in London who pre-ordered the phone, allowing them to grab their devices earlier than others.

Interest in this smartphone was impressive, Samsung notes, adding that Vodafone has reserved the largest amount of units, and that UK retailer The Carphone Warehouse has registered unprecedented level of pre-orders as well.

Additionally, the mobile phone maker announced that it plans on kicking off its Galaxy S III World Tour from May 31st in no less than nine cities around the world.

In addition to the aforementioned quad-core application processor, Galaxy S III also arrives on shelves with a large 4.8-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering an HD resolution.

Samsung packed it with 16GB / 32GB / 64GB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of external storage.

On the back, the smartphone features an 8-megapixel photo snapper with HD video recording capabilities, complemented by a 1.9MP camera on the front, great for making video calls.

Next month, Samsung is launching an LTE-capable flavor of Galaxy S III, which will feature a dual-core processor, and which will be released in countries where the new-gen connectivity is already available.
