The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system is finally available for download for Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones in India, it seems.

The new platform release started to arrive on Galaxy S II devices around the world earlier this year, with the UK being the latest to receive it.

Starting this week, however, owners of a Galaxy S II smartphone in India will also be able to download and install the new platform version on their handsets, a recent post on Fonearena reads.

The update is expected to provide users with a nice range of enhancements on their devices, including two Homescreen modes, as well as the much praised Google Now service, the same as it did on the Galaxy Note in India only several weeks ago.

Additionally, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean lands on smartphones with enhancements to the Notifications Panel, including expandable, actionable Notifications, as well as with contextual search.

Other goodies that this platform update will bring to Galaxy S II include Direct Call, Smart Stay, Pop-up play, Video Hub, along with various other new features.

Furthermore, the update will remove the Social Hub from the device, due to a series of incompatibility issues, it seems. However, users will be able to download Polaris Office, Photo Editor and Video Maker from Samsung Apps, should they want to do so.

The new operating system upgrade will arrive on devices both over-the-air and via the Samsung Kies desktop application. However, Galaxy S II owners should keep in mind that the update will be rolled out in phases, which means that some of them will receive it at a later date.

Users will receive a notification on its availability, yet they can also manually check to see whether it has been released for their handsets or not. For that, they will need to go to Settings > About > Software update.
