Although Samsung has yet to deliver the highly anticipated Ice Cream Sandwich for Galaxy S II in India, customers are in luck as the smartphone is now available for purchase with Android 4.0 on-board.

According to the latest reports coming from customers who have already purchased the Galaxy S II, it appears that only units imported in India in April or later are shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

Even though it will be bit harder to find out exactly when a Galaxy S II unit was imported in the country, customers can check it faster by simply powering on the smartphone.

Samsung has already started the rollout of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for Galaxy S II, but the update is not available in all regions. Indians who already own a Galaxy S II smartphone will probably have to wait a bit more until the update goes live in the country.

Rumor has it that the Android 4.0 ICS update will arrive in India after the hotly anticipated Galaxy S III hits shelves at Samsung’s stores.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a list of retailers that offer the Samsung Galaxy S II pre-installed with Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and the bad news is that not all authorized sellers can tell you whether or not a certain phone is imported in April.

So, it will probably be better to ask retailers to verify which version of Android platform their Galaxy S II units are running, before actually purchasing the smartphone.

On a side note, Samsung Galaxy S III pre-booking has just been opened in India, so customers who want to be sure they get their units as soon as it hits shelves can reserve one for Rs 2,000 (35 USD/ 30 EUR).

However, customers will be able to redeem the amount paid for a Galaxy S III reservation when they purchase the smartphone.
