Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread has finally reached Samsung Galaxy S II units in India. The update is reportedly available for download beginning today via Samsung Kies desktop software.

According to the folks over at AndroidOS, the update brings better support for Indic languages, but still leaves room for some issues that will probably be fixed in a future minor update.

Software version I9100XWKL1 is available for Indian Galaxy S II owners via the latest version of Samsung Kies.

The update may not appear the first time the application is launched, so it’s recommended to check for the update constantly until it shows up.

There is no change log for the moment, but Android 2.3.6 is said to improve the security of the phone, as well as its performance.

Several bugs might have been fixed as well, but then again without an official change log it is hard to tell which ones have been addressed.

Hi, I am from Mumbai. I updated my SII to 2.3.6 via Kies officially. Try to update the latest version of kies available at samsung's indian website and then install the latest kies version. Connect ur pc/laptop through mobile and it will show new firmware update. THis should resolve ur issue. However, please note that if you have had rooted your phone once also unofficially, you cannot upgrade throught Kies. Once rooted, upgrade through Kies cannot be installed. It will say the same thing you have noticed. Pls check.

I had this upgrade and its feels good. Seems battery life is extending. I dont get any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth problem. Every time i turn on my Bluetooth it provides a notification Bluetooth available. this is kind of annoying. Other than that its fine. I9100XWKL1 is working. Working to make things in Samsung galaxy s2 even more better.
