Samsung Galaxy S II is available in Japan for quite some time now from NTT DoCoMo, as well as other carriers, but the former has just announced the availability of the LTE version of the high-end smartphone.

Japanese customers who fancy fast Internet speeds on their devices can now purchase the Galaxy S II LTE for ¥20,000 (260 USD or 195 EUR) with a new two-year agreement from NTT DoCoMo.

NTT DoCoMo has recently upgraded its 3G FOMA services and is now offering speeds up to ten times faster via LTE, also known as “Xi.”

According to NTT DoCoMo, this is the first LTE smartphone launched in Japan. On related news, Samsung released the Galaxy S II LTE in South Korea last month and recently introduced the smartphone in Canada as well.

Anyway, NTT DoCoMo is trying to overcome iPhone’s sales, which are still strong, with the launch of the Galaxy S II LTE.

If you use it, you'll be satisfied with the speed. It can compete well with the iPhone,” said the NTT DoCoMo President, Ryuji Yamada.

Unlike the standard Galaxy S II, the LTE version comes with a larger 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen that supports 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution, which is protected by Gorilla Glass display.

The Galaxy S II LTE is equipped with a powerful 1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 Snapdragon CPU and an Adreno 220 graphics processing unit.

In addition, it packs the same amount of memory as the standard version, 16 GB storage, 1 GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8 GB memory card included).

The LTE-enabled device also embeds an improved 1850 mAh battery that should provide users with up to 192 hours of standby or up to 5 hours of talk time.
