On Sunday, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics made official a series of new devices running under Google's Android operating system, including the long rumored Samsung Galaxy S II

, a Gingerbread-based smartphone that should deliver great performance levels when made available on shelves.

Softpedia's editors were present at the launch event, and played a little with the device, as you can see in the photos below, so as to make an idea on what users would be able to enjoy in the not too far future.

With a large 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and a dual-core 1GHz Samsung application processor, inside, the new device would certainly make a lot of users happy.

Not only is it good looking, but it also offers impressive performance capabilities, which would contribute to a great experience when it comes to playing games, using applications, surfing the Internet, or viewing photos and videos.

Moreover, the new smartphone is incredibly thin, which adds to the overall appeal it comes with.

Running under Google's Gingerbread operating system (Android 2.3.1), the new handset comes with a series of specific features, including NFC capabilities (Near Field Communication), or support for various Google Mobile Services, including Gmail, YouTube, Talk, Maps, or access to the Android Market.

The phone was designed to offer an enhanced multimedia experience, with 1080p full HD recording and playback features (an 8MP camera on the back), WiFi Direct and Wi-Fi 802.11 (a/b/g/n), DLNA (AllShare), Adobe Flash 10.1 support, and support for HSPA+ 21 connectivity for fast web browsing. Samsung Galaxy S II arrives on shelves with 16/32GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space. It measures 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.49mm and weighs in at 116g, while including a 1650mAh battery.

This handset's features extend to the business area as well, with Exchange ActiveSync, Document Viewer / Editor, Android Browser, RSS Reader, Cisco Mobile, Cisco WebEx, Sybase Afaria Mobile Device Management, Cisco AnyConnect Virtual Private Network, and On Device Encryption.

Other specs of Galaxy S II would include: Accelerometer, Light, Digital Compass, Proximity, Gyroscope sensor, A-GPS, Google Voice Search, Music Hub, Readers Hub, Game Hub, 3.5mm headphone jack, Stereo FM Radio with RDS, and more.
