Samsung promised it would offer an improved Gingerbread update to all Galaxy family devices that do not meet the hardware requirements for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The popular Galaxy S smartphone and Galaxy Tab slate are among these devices that will never receive an official Ice Cream Sandwich update.

However, Samsung plans to release a so-called “Value Pack” update that offers customers who purchased these Galaxy devices a glimpse to what Android 4.0 ICS means.

The South Korean company already released said update for Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy W, Galaxy M Style and Galaxy Tab.

Even though the update was only available in some regions, it will soon be rolled out globally. Today, Samsung officially announced the immediate availability of the “Value Pack” upgrade for Galaxy S Hoppin.

The update can be downloaded via Samsung Kies desktop software and brings new features such as Face Unlock, the ability to create new folders and to shot pictures while recording videos.
