Samsung's flagship Android-based Gapaxy S is set to make an appearance on the market in Australia exclusively at Optus on July 1, Samsung Electronics Australia announced recently. When available, the new device would sport a $0 upfront cost on the $59 ‘yes’ Social plan, while offering users the possibility to enjoy a game-changing, intelligent and integrated mobile experience. Optus would have the new device exclusively throughout July, Samsung announced, adding that all wireless carriers in Australia would put it on sale in August.

The new Samsung Galaxy S comes to the market with a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, a 1GHz application processor, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, built-in GPS receiver, stereo FM radio, large internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space. The Android-based mobile phone measures 122 x 64 x 9.9 mm and weighs in at 118g.

“We’re excited to be bringing the Galaxy S, our most innovative and advanced smartphone to date, first-to-market with Optus,” said Tyler McGee, Vice President, Telecommunications, Samsung Electronics Australia. “We are committed to offering our customers choice by providing the broadest range of handsets in Australia to suit every lifestyle. Our new Galaxy S smartphone offers the very best of tomorrow’s smartphone technology and experiences today and makes it easier than ever for Australians to connect with each other.”

The features Samsung Galaxy S comes to Australia with are meant to offer an enhanced user experience too. Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 user interface has been pre-loaded on top of Google's Android operating system, offering fast access to social networking sites through the Social Hub service, while bringing content to users' fingertips via an eReading feature. Additionally, the phone features SWYPE text input for fast texting and emailing, and provides users with access to the Android Market, where they will find thousands of applications available for download.

“Optus is delighted to be the exclusive launch partner for the Samsung Galaxy S. [...] A feature rich and data-centric device like this one needs a mobile provider which has the network and plans which can provide an exceptional customer experience. The Optus network is the perfect showcase for this device and our plans also provide customers with exceptional value,” said Austin R. Bryan, Marketing Director, Optus Consumer. “The Samsung Galaxy S is a handset which will have extremely broad appeal to our customer base, both in regional and metropolitan areas. We look forward to bringing Australia this innovative and exciting handset.”
