Today, Opera Software and South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced officially that the Opera Mini mobile browser has been made available for the Samsung Galaxy S, the company's flagship mobile phone.

According to the duo, the Opera Mini application will be pre-loaded on Galaxy S on select markets in the beginning. Moreover, Opera plans on making it available for download from its website for current Galaxy S owners.

“Samsung has been one of the top partners for Opera since 2006, launching numerous Opera-powered handsets. Today, Samsung Galaxy S users can also experience the fastest and most popular mobile browser, Opera Mini,” the company notes.

Through using Opera Mini for browsing the Internet, Samsung Galaxy S owners would have the possibility to enjoy far less data consumption.

The mobile browser was designed so as to compress data by up to 90 percent before sending it to the mobile phone, which should provide increased speeds and faster page loading.

According to Opera, the compression capabilities of the mobile browser were meant to reduce significantly the data load, “which translates to lower browsing costs when on a pay-per-MB data plan or when on expensive roaming plans.”

We should also note that the mobile browser currently has a number of more than 76.3 million monthly users worldwide, and that it has been optimized for use on a number of more than 3000 different handsets.

“We are very glad to provide the best mobile Internet experience to Samsung’s Galaxy S users and Opera fans in selected markets,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “We also hope that global fans can get the chance in the near future.”

The Android flavor of the browser is available for download from Softpedia too, via this link. The application is available as a free download, and can be used for free as well.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Opera made available for Android devices the bigger brother of this browser, Opera Mobile, which can be found here, also available for free.
