T-Mobile has just gone live on its website with the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, the next generation Android Vibrant. Even though the smartphone is not yet available for pre-orders, this shows that the device will be exclusively available from T-Mobile.

Customers who wish to upgrade their Vibrant phones must register to receive notifications with information about the upcoming Galaxy S 4G.

It is unclear why the carrier dropped the Samsung Vibrant 4G name, which was supposed to be the smartphone's moniker initially. It may have something to do with the fact that the Galaxy S is considered to be a more powerful brand than the Vibrant, or the carrier is simply not content with its own Vibrant brand.

According to the carrier, Galaxy S 4G will be one of the fastest smartphones in North America, capable of delivering peak download speeds of up to 21Mbps.

The Galaxy S 4G is powered by a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 (Hummingbird platform) and runs on Android 2.2 Froyo platform, which is a little bit odd, as Android 2.3 Gingerbread has already been launched.

The device comes with a large 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors, 480 x 800 pixels resolution, Gorilla Glass protective display, TouchWiz 3.0 UI, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, as well as Swype text input.

“With Galaxy S 4G, T-Mobile will deliver its fastest smartphone yet on America’s largest 4G network, providing rich entertainment virtually whenever and wherever consumers want,” said Cole Brodman, chief marketing officer, T-Mobile USA.

“And with 4G data plans from $10 per month, we’re making blazing-fast 4G speeds and super smartphone experiences easily accessible to the millions who crave them,” added Brodman.

Other key features of the smartphone include: HSDPA 21 Mbps, HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, DLNA function, 1GB ROM, 512 MB RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 16GB card included), 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, touch focus, face, smile detection and camcorder (720p@30fps), as well as GPS with A-GPS support.

No details regarding the phone's release date have been disclosed yet, but T-Mobile stated that additional information would be available “in the coming weeks.”
