The smartphone comes with a curved display covered by glass

Officially unveiled last week, Samsung Galaxy Round, the world’s first smartphone to feature a flexible display, has just gotten its first unboxing video, which shows that the screen is not that flexible as we thought.

The folks over at Under KG have just published an unboxing video of the Galaxy Round and it looks like this is just a slightly curved device.

The so-called Super AMOLED flexible display is covered by glass and cannot be flexed. Samsung’s display may be flexible after all, but only before it gets embedded into the smartphone and covered with glass.

I suspect that Samsung wanted to be the first to launch a curved phone before LG could do it. Samsung Galaxy Round is now available for purchase in South Korea, but it will be interesting to see whether it will be introduced in more countries. Because if it’s not, it will only prove that this is has been just a marketing stunt.
