Samsung intended it mainly for the testing of curved OLED screens

Last week, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics made official its first smartphone with a curved display, namely the Galaxy Round, but it seems that only a few users will actually be able to enjoy its capabilities.

Apparently, the mobile phone is, in fact, only a prototype, and Samsung does not plan on producing many units.

The handset vendor will make only limited quantities of the smartphone even in its homeland market, as its main purpose was to test the capabilities of curved OLED displays.

According to SamMobile, this also explains why Samsung priced the smartphone so high, and it could mean that the company does not plan on making the phone available for purchase in other markets around the world.

However, should the testing prove successful, we might see Samsung launching another curved handset, one that would become widely available.
