Although Samsung announced it wouldn’t hold any launch events at this year’s Mobile World Congress exhibition, the company continues to launch new devices. Shortly after Samsung introduced its Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) slate, another unannounced device has just appeared in the wild.

The folks over at AndroidOS have been tipped on the Samsung Pop Plus smartphone, which has yet to be officially unveiled by the Korean handset maker.

Major Indian retailer Flipkart has this phone listed in its portfolio, but it looks like it is “Out of Stock.” However, this is not the first time that Flipkart lists new phones with this tag, so we can safely assume that Galaxy Pop Plus will soon be available for purchase.

Customers who consider the Galaxy Pop Plus for purchase should know that Flipkart will offer this budget-friendly Android smartphone for only Rs 8,330 (170 USD or 130 EUR) outright.

Samsung Galaxy Pop Plus is a slightly upgraded version of the Galaxy Pop, also known as Galaxy mini. It will be interesting to see whether Samsung launches this handset in other countries as well, especially that a certain Galaxy mini 2 is about to be unveiled within the next few weeks.

According to the specs sheet listed by Flipkart, Galaxy Pop Plus should run Google’s Android 2.2 Froyo, which is a bit unusual for a smartphone launched these days. The phone has been confirmed to be delivered with Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread.

Unlike the original Galaxy Pop that embeds a 600 MHz CPU, the improved version is equipped with an 832 MHz processor.

Other than that, most of the features seem to be similar to those of the Galaxy Pop, including the 3.14-inch capacitive touchscreen (240 x 320 pixels resolution), 3-megapixel rear camera and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

There’s also support for 3G, FM Radio, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as built-in GPS receiver. The smartphone’s 1200 1600 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 9 hours of talk time or up to 570 hours of standby time.
