We’re not 100% certain yet, but it’s a possibility

There has been a rumor going around since before we stepped into 2015 saying that Samsung was looking to update to Android 5.0 Lollipop the thee-year-old Galaxy Note II.

To some of us, this seemed like an unlikely scenario given that the phone is too old to be covered by Google’s software update policy, which recommends manufacturers to offer major upgrades for smartphones that are no more than 18 months old.

However, at some point down the road, Samsung Poland seemingly confirmed in a tweet that the Galaxy Note II would indeed get the much craved for Lollipop update.

Still, we heard reports that Samsung hadn’t yet taken up the development of the update for this particular model. And now, it appears that the Korean tech giant has dropped such plans altogether.

To be or not to be: Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy Note II

In a recent post on Facebook, Samsung Gulf, one of the company’s branches that operates in the Persian Gulf, made it clear that the Galaxy Note II wouldn’t receive the update. Ever.

Now, it is not clear whether Samsung Gulf is referring to the local variant of the Galaxy Note II sold in the country or to the international version.

That’s an interesting point to consider given the recent Galaxy S4 mini story, when UK-based carrier Three answered a query on its Tweeter page related to when the device would get the Lollipop treatment.

The company said that, unfortunately, the handset would not be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop due to memory limitations. However, a few hours later, Three Ireland confirmed on Twitter that the new build would actually be made available shortly in the country. Apparently, their version is a different one.

So, bearing this in mind, it might be possible that the Galaxy Note II model in the Persian Gulf won’t be updated, but other models across the world might receive the new build at some point.

For the time being, we recommend to take this information with a big grain of salt and don’t lose hope just yet. It might be possible that Samsung will end up surprising us after all.
