A Chinese employee has leaked a possible price

Those of you who followed our IFA 2014 coverage might be familiar with the fact that Samsung introduced at the event an interesting spin-off of its flagship Galaxy Note 4.

The smartphone is called Galaxy Note Edge and comes with a peculiarity unseen before in other handsets – it takes advantage of a curved display residing on the right-hand side, which is home to notifications, bookmarks, and such.

For a first contact, the device seems nice enough, but it remains to be seen how useful the additional screen will actually turn out to be in real life.

Since this is a device that comes with a unique feature, we would normally expect Samsung to sell it for a sensible price.

But as a new report coming out of Gforgames suggests, the handset might hit retail shelves with a more considerable price than we might like it to.

Chinese employee reveals possible price

A China Mobile employee posted confidential information on his Weibo account in which they suggested the smartphone would arrive on the Chinese market equipped with a massive $1,139 / €879 tag.

That’s a huge price for a Galaxy Note device, and for the sake of comparison, we’ll tell you that, back when it was first launched, the Galaxy Note 3 was offered in the country for $882 / €680 for those purchasing it under the China Mobile banner.

The price of the Note 3 was not negligible either, but at least it did not jump over the 1,000 buck threshold.

The post was eventually deleted

Anyway, a few hours later, the story took a different turn, when the China Mobile employee unexpectedly deleted his post and replaced it with one saying that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 would arrive in the country on September 26.

It appears that Chinese carriers are all conspiring to get Samsung’s latest and greatest on board with them as soon as possible, preferably before the rest of the world has a chance to dig into the new Sammy goodness.

For those of you who need a memory refresh regarding the specs of the Galaxy Edge, the phablet uses a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display (with 2560 x 1600 pixels) on both parts of the screen, which is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The handset takes advantage of 3GB of RAM and offers 32GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Note Edge’s life is sustained by a 3,000 mAh battery, which is a tad smaller than the one found in the Galaxy Note 4.

The smaller battery can be explained by the fact that Edge owners won’t have to wake up the main display too often, since they have the secondary one to review notifications and such.
