Samsung’s next flagship is just a few months away

With the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge out of the way, the next big thing expected to arrive from Samsung is the Galaxy Note 5 phablet.

Rumors about the mighty beast have already started popping up online, which is a very good indication that the big event is not far from us.

So while we wait for the official announcement, we are taking the opportunity to walk you through all the major leaks we have related to Samsung’s upcoming phablet device.

The Galaxy Note 5 might have a 4K display

Since the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge arrive with a QHD display (2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution), it’s only natural to assume that Samsung will want to offer something superior on board the Galaxy Note 5.

According to rumors, the company is currently testing a version of the phablet with a 4K display (3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution) and a whopping 762ppi.

We’re told that the phone should make a debut with a 5.89-inch display. Samsung is yet to make a decision about which panel will end up being implemented on the Note 5, but if everything goes well, a 4K phablet might become a reality in a few months.

Processor upgrade is highly likely

Last year’s Galaxy Note 4 arrived with either a Snapdragon 805 or an Exynos 5433, but in 2015, the Korean tech giant utilized only its in-house chips to power the latest set of flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

So in all probability, the Galaxy Note 5 will rely on an Exynos chip as well. And leaks claim that Samsung is already testing Galaxy Note 5 units with an Exynos 7430 chipset on the inside.

On the other hand, competing speculation claims that the phone might be powered by an Exynos 7422 processor, which is expected to be the company’s first ever all-in-one solution (ePoP) and will combine the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and modem on a single chip.

The Exynos 7420 inside the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge has been proved to be a real beast, performance-wise, so expect the Galaxy Note 5’s powerhouse to be at least on par with Sammy’s current high-end silicone.

The Galaxy Note 5 might arrive with Android M

Android M was announced yesterday by Google, Android M Developer Preview has already been released. However, unlike last year, we should expect to see Google provide several updates to it, until the final version gets released.

The first one is due out in June, and the second one should arrive by the end of July. So if Google sticks to this plan, the consumer-ready Android M release should be rolling out this fall.

Which is when the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is rumored to launch. So there's a slight chance the phablet might be among the first devices to arrive with Android M out of the box.

Even if that's not the case, the phablet should be among the first to get Android M when the time comes.

Galaxy Note Edge 2 Is possible

Samsung is apparently seeing great consumer demand for its “edge” products, especially the Galaxy S6 edge. With this in mind, the company might even look to introduce a third “edge” phone before it gets the chance to roll out the purported Note Edge 2.

But according to the rumor mill, the Note Edge 2 will be nothing like the Note 5, internally speaking. Codenamed “Project Zen,” the phone is poised to make an appearance with a 5.4-inch / 5.5-inch Super AMOLED dual-edge curved display, a hexa-core Snapdragon 808, 16GB of internal storage, a 16MP primary camera with OIS plus an 8MP front-facing camera.

Last but not least, the phablet might not arrive with an S Pen.

Release date poised for IFA 2015

Not so long ago, we told you that a report came in saying that the Galaxy Note 5 might arrive earlier this year, probably in July.

It was speculated that Samsung wanted to counter the iPhone 6s release, which was also rumored to be moved towards the end of the summer.

However, Samsung’s own CEO stepped forward and refuted these rumors and said that we shouldn’t expect the phablet to arrive earlier.

With Samsung reserving the IFA event in Berlin to launch its phablets, it’s probably more than safe to say that the Galaxy Note 5 will arrive in September.
