Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the upcoming high-end smartphone from South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung, will reportedly feature a 12-megapixel camera on the back, one that should sport Optical Image Stabilization capabilities.

The info comes from ETNews, which also notes that the mobile phone maker and its partners have already made all of the necessary preparations for kicking off mass production of the camera sensor, yet no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

According to the news site, the 12MP camera on the Galaxy Note 4 will sport Optical Image Stabilization capabilities and will be paired with a 3.7MP front camera for making video calls.

Apparently, the new 12MP camera sensor will be produced at the company’s Tianjin factory, which is capable of making around 1 million units per month.

As GforGames notes, this amount should actually be more than enough, since Samsung is planning on having around 5 million Galaxy Note 4 units available at launch (2 million sensors will be produced by its partners, rumor has it).

Previous reports on the upcoming device suggested that the company might actually release the handset with a 16MP camera (or even a larger, 20MP unit) on the back, so as to keep it in line with the Galaxy S5.

However, the new rumor on the matter indicates that Samsung is actually interested in ensuring that Galaxy Note 4 will sport a very thin body, so it has decided to go for the 12MP camera sensor instead, to make sure this would happen.

At the same time, the company is said to plan on packing the aforementioned 20MP sensor on the next Galaxy S smartphone, which should arrive on the market next year as Galaxy S6.

Considering the fact that most mobile phone makers out there are tending to include more powerful cameras inside their handsets and that Galaxy S5 has already arrived with a 16MP unit, it’s rather hard to believe that Samsung would take a step backwards with the upcoming Galaxy Note 4.

Moreover, as mentioned above, the company is usually equipping new Galaxy Note smartphones with the same or better cameras as included in the Galaxy S handsets launched only a couple of months earlier in the year.

This suggests that the new report on Galaxy Note 4’s camera might remain only a rumor in the end, though we should wait for more confirmation on the matter until we can actually be sure about it, so stay tuned.
