Samsung launched its latest flagship, the Galaxy Note back at IFA 2014 in Berlin. The Korean tech giant is offering customers two different options when it comes to chips; you either choose Sammy’s own in-house 64-bit Exynos 7 platform or Qualcomm Snapdragon 805.

While these two chips are worthy solutions and received a lot of positive feedback, you might want to know that Samsung is preparing a third version of the Note 4 which will draw power from a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC.

Third version of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 coming soon

Even if differences between Qualcomm and Exynos SoC are quite subtle performance-wise, the upcoming Snapdragon 810 SoC will probably offer an incremental increase.

Snapdragon 810 is a 64-bit processor chip with the big.LITTLE technology. Qualcomm is calling its latest processor platform endeavor its fastest ever. The 810 has Cat 6/7 on board with 20 MHz exaggeration capability for achieving 300 MHz down link speeds.

On top of that, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 also gets the slightly upgraded Adreno 430 GPU. The chip brings support for two 4K displays at 30 fps as well.

So far, the Snapdragon 810 has been said to power upcoming flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S6 or LG G4, but now it appears a new version of the Galaxy Note 4 will take advantage of the same treatment.

Unlike the Snapdragon 805 which has a 32-bit quad-core CPU and Adreno 420 GPU, the Snapdragon 810 SoC uses a 64-bit octa-core CPU.

We have seen 64-bit chipsets before. One particular example is the NVIDIA Tegra K1 which can be found mostly in tablets plus a handful of lower-end Qualcomm SoCs like the Snapdragon 410 which pumps the HTC Desire 510.

Sam Mobile received an anonymous tip saying that the new Galaxy Note 4 is currently being tested for some major carriers in South Korea. So those of you living outside the borders of this country, don’t get your hopes up, as Samsung will probably not market the 810-enhanced Note 4 anywhere else.

Nevertheless, it will be quite interesting to see how the Snapdragon 810 model compares in terms of performance with the version running on Exynos 7 Octa processor since both of them have similar CPU setups.

When will we see the Snapdragon 810-enhanced chip?

At some point some voices raised concerns that the Snapdragon 810 chip might get delayed, thus hindering the launch schedule of Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4, but yesterday Qualcomm’s own Senior Director assured everybody that the launch of the new chip remains on track for 1H.

Technically, this means we could see Snapdragon 810 devices anywhere between next month and June, so in theory the new Note 4 variant might be upon us soon enough.
