We reported a while ago that Samsung may launch a Developer Edition of the Galaxy Note 4 in the United States, though we did not know when exactly that would happen.

Well, it looks like Android fans will now finally be able to pick this one up for no less than $700 (€550) outright. There’s a catch though, as the phablet is locked on Verizon Wireless’ network, so those on agreements with other carriers will have to wait until Samsung brings it to their operators as well.

In fact, it’s not even sure that the Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition will be available in the US from carriers other than Verizon Wireless.

Nevertheless, the option is there, so those who qualify for it can grab it beginning today from Samsung’s online store. Keep in mind that the smartphone is only available in Charcoal Black.

The Developer Edition handsets are a niche products that stand at the threshold between the Nexus family and other Android smartphones launched by various OEMs.

Developer Edition smartphones are among the first to receive major OS updates, directly from Google, which is one of the reasons customers prefer to get them over regular smartphones.

The same applies to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition, which is now available for purchase in the United States. However, given the fact that Android 5.0 Lollipop has yet to be officially released on the market, the Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition will ship with Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box.

The phablet will certainly receive an Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon

At least it will be a stock version of KitKat, though it’s unclear whether or not Verizon will include some of its bloatware on the device. Let’s hope they won’t do that.

Apart from that, the Developer Edition is similar with the standard Galaxy Note 4 version in all aspects. This means that customers will be offered the same stunning 5.7-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display and enhanced 16-megapixel rear-facing camera.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition is equipped with a 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, an Adreno 420 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM.

The phablet comes with 32GB of internal memory, but users will be able to expand it up to 128GB via microSD card slot. It’s also worth mentioning that Galaxy Note 4 is powered by a 3220 mAh battery with fast charging and offers lots of connectivity options, including 4G LTE Cat.6, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC.
