Several hours after Google and Samsung announced world's first smartphone to run the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, Three confirmed it will carry the superphone in the UK.

Moreover, the carrier announced that the Galaxy Nexus will be the first and only device in the UK this year to launch with Ice Cream Sandwich.

As soon as Three UK's HSPA+ network will be ready, at the end of the year, Galaxy Nexus owners will be offered a tremendous speed boost when browsing the internet.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus comes with an impressive 4.65-inch capacitive touchscreen, the first to support HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels resolution), which features an oleophobic surface.

Sylvia Chind, head of handsets at Three said, “At Three we love firsts, so we’re excited to be bringing our customers the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich phone. It’s also great to add another HSPA+ enabled device to our range, which will see the Samsung Galaxy Nexus’ features be brought to life with Three’s award-winning HSPA+ enabled network.”

More importantly the smartphone supports GSM and CDMA standards, along with LTE, HSDPA and HSUPA technology.

Equipped with an 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor, Galaxy Nexus promises to deliver enhanced Android experience and increased power efficiency.

Galaxy Nexus sports a 5-megpapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, face detection, full HD (1080p) video recording capabilities, as well as secondary 1.3-megapixel front facing camera.

The superphone offers users the full range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, microUSB and GPS with A-GPS support.

Unfortunately, Galaxy Nexus does not feature a microSD card slot, but Samsung stated that two models will be available in terms of memory amount, a 16GB version and a 32GB model.

Three UK has yet to unveil any details regarding the Galaxy Nexus launch date and price options.
