The sequel to Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy Mega phablet has been rumored for quite a while now, but the South Korean company did not reveal any details on the specs and the price tag of its upcoming device.

Even though everyone was expecting Samsung to introduce the Galaxy Mega 2 at IFA 2014 trade fair, along with the Galaxy Note 4, the handset maker focused solely on the latter and did not share any news on the former.

However, about one week before IFA 2014 kicked off in early September, the Galaxy Mega 2 popped up at an authorized retailer in Malaysia and customers could purchase it for about $410 (€320) outright.

That was more reason to believe that the Galaxy Mega 2 would be announced ahead or during the trade fair that ended about two weeks ago. Well, it appears that Samsung had other plans, as the phablet has yet to be officially introduced by the South Korean company.

It’s possible that Samsung did not want to split the attention of its fans between more than two devices, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.

Knowing that each year a new Galaxy Note phablet is revealed in September at IFA, it’s understandable that Samsung did not want to launch a different device around the same time frame.

The good news is that fans of the mid-range lineup of phablets will be able to purchase the Galaxy Mega 2 soon, as the smartphone has just been listed on Samsung’s Thailand website.

This is the second country where Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 makes an appearance, but the first time the phablet shows up on an official site.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is now available in a few Asian countries

Unfortunately, there’s no price tag attached to it, but we suspect that the smartphone will be available in Thailand for around the same amount as the Malaysian version.

The important thing is that we now have all the specs officially confirmed by Samsung. So, Galaxy Mega 2 sports a 6-inch HD (720p) capacitive touchscreen display, which makes it smaller than the previous Galaxy Mega 6.3 model, but bigger than the Galaxy Mega 5.8 variant.

On the inside, Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is armed with an Exynos 4415 chipset that accommodates a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM.

There’s also an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, along with a 2.1-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls.

Moreover, the phablet offers dual-SIM capability, LTE support and 8GB of internal memory with the option to expand it up to 64GB via microSD card.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Galaxy Mega 2 ships with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, and judging by the fact that it’s now available for purchase in two Asian countries, we believe it will be introduced in other emerging markets in the region within the next couple of days.
