Depending on country, it may be priced slightly higher

Samsung has lost leadership in several smartphone markets, mostly due to its prices not being competitive enough in comparison with those of native handset makers in those regions.

India was for a long time Samsung's main market for low- and mid-end Android smartphones, but since last year it lost the number one position to Micromax.

Well, it appears that the South Korean company is really concerned that it lost a lot of market share in emerging markets. Samsung needs to be more competitive in the low-end segment, especially when it comes to prices.

The Galaxy J1 is Samsung's attempt to take back some of the lost market share in the low-end range. The smartphone was officially announced back in January and is now available for purchase in Europe.

Although Samsung has not announced anything officially, some European retailers are already listing the Galaxy J1 as available for purchase, GSMArena reports.

The important thing is that Samsung Galaxy J1 is available for only €120 ($130) in the Netherlands, while in Germany it's been priced at €135 ($146) outright.

KitKat is a letdown, but 4G LTE is great for such a cheap device

For that money, customers will get Android 4.4 KitKat, which isn't so great, and a 4.3-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive touchscreen display.

On the back, the Galaxy J1 features a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and video recording, while on the front there's a secondary 2-megapixel camera for video calls.

The smartphone is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, and microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 128GB.

Samsung Galaxy J1 comes with 4G LTE support, as well as other connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with AGPS, FM Radio, and NFC (Near Field Communication).

The Galaxy J1 might be priced competitively in Europe, but the smartphone wouldn't be so appealing in other regions like India, where you can find better devices at similar prices.
