14 DAY TRIAL // Showcased at IFA 2010 one month ago, Samsung Galaxy 551 (I5510) was officially announced by Samsung. The new Galaxy device comes with a sliding QWERTY keyboard and Android 2.2 out-of-the-box.
Another member of the big Galaxy family has just become official and will hit the European market in November.
The new Samsung Galaxy 551 is powered by a 667MHz CPU and runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform.
Sadly, the smartphone comes with a rather small-sized 3.2-inch capacitive TFT touchscreen (240x400 pixels resolution).
The Galaxy 551 features the proprietary TouchWiz 3.0 UI and a physical sliding QWERTY keyboard. The device has a very basic sleek design, with a shiny plastic chassis and the usual Android simple buttons on the front, with the menu key doubling as a search button via a long press.
The keys seem to be well spaced and easy to press, and got lots of secondary functions all around, including the “.com” option next to the right of the Space bar.
Other key features of the Android smartphone include: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support, Social Hub, DivX support, FM Radio, GPS with AGPS support, 1200mAh battery, microUSB, 160 MB internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion.
The device sports a 5.0-megapixel camera which lacks flash, and is integrated with social networking applications.
Leaked one month ago, Galaxy 551 is rumored to be launched in Europe through Vodafone Germany, who will offer it for about 200 Euro with contract.
Spec-wise it seems similar to Samsung Galaxy Apollo, which place it at the mid-range of the smartphone market.
Samsung Galaxy I5510 is expected to be available on the marker in November, and as a mid-budget smartphone will carry a price tag of 389 Euros, which is about $540 USD.
