The sequel of the mildly popular Samsung Galaxy Grand has just been announced and judging by the official specs sheet, it’s more powerful and better featured than its predecessor.

Dubbed Galaxy Grand 2, the smartphone is meant to offer those who already have the previous model the option to upgrade to a new dual-SIM handset with a newer version of Android and a better processor.

First of all, the new Galaxy Grand smartphone is equipped with a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, whereas the previous model is packed with dual-core CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz.

There’s also an increase in display size, as the Galaxy Grand 2 sports a 5.25-inch capacitive touchscreen display, while its predecessor comes with a slightly smaller 5-inch display.

The resolution of the Galaxy Grand 2’s display has been enhanced to 720 x 1280 pixels, as opposed to 480 x 800 pixels supported by the standard Galaxy Grand smartphone.

Another selling point of the phone is the fact that it comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system right out of the box, while it is still unclear whether the Galaxy Grand will get this upgrade in the future.

Aside from the more powerful 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, Galaxy Grand 2 packs 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further improved up to 64GB via microSD memory card.

Another improvement over the previous model is the battery. Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is powered by a high-capacity 2600 mAh Li-Ion battery, which should provide up to 10 hours of playback or 17 hours of calls.

It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone offers HSPA+ connectivity, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. GPS with GLONASS support and 3.5mm audio jack are included as well.

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 also features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as 1.9-megapixel front camera for video calls.
